Local Counseling and Other Mental Health Services
Portneuf Valley Family Center (PVFC) has provided mental health services in Pocatello since 2005. Our team provides counseling and other mental health services for children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. PVFC offers a range of services to residents of Pocatello and the surrounding areas. Our Pocatello team includes clinical staff members, two individuals who oversee medication management, office staff, and community staff. PVFC is committed to serving the community with professional and personalized attention.
A Customized Approach
We offer a customized approach to counseling and other mental health services.
Initial visits involve getting to know individuals and their situations and to establishing treatment plans. PVFC plans are formed with specific attention to the particular circumstances of our clients. PVFC is committed to providing quality care. With that commitment, when appropriate, we will work with other healthcare providers to help patients receive professional support.
Caring, Licensed Counselors and Social Workers
The PVFC staff includes both counselors and social workers who are positioned to provide caring mental health support to Pocatello and the surrounding area. Our counselors and social workers have received educational training, hold relevant licensures, and possess professional experience aligned with the services they provide at PVFC.

Counseling/Psychotherapy
Counseling focuses on short-term solutions for contemporary circumstances, whereas psychotherapy addresses longer-term issues. Counseling is intended to help clients find their own solutions and may last several weeks or several months. Psychotherapy includes a number of treatment approaches and may continue or occur intermittently for several years.
Counseling and psychotherapy programs are in place to support clients with resources and personalization.
Community-based rehabilitation services
Community-based rehabilitation services are collaborative. PVFC employs a home and community-based therapy approach involving a patient and a mental health professional both attending to personalized treatment goals. Community-based rehabilitation services are intended to support improved quality of life for those with behavioral and mental health issues and can be effective for individuals dealing with serious mental health conditions.
Medication management
Through medication management, patients receive comprehensive, outpatient care. Medication management includes initial assessment and follow-up checkpoints as deemed appropriate. Medication management can be a valuable service used in treatment for those with depression, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADD/ADHD), bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. Medications can be prescribed from PVFC for patients aged six years and older.
Behavioral health case management
Behavioral health case management is to help connect individuals and community resources. Case management is made available to individuals who quality, and qualification must be determined by a clinician. Case management services are available to qualifying children, adolescents, and adults. Behavioral case management can provide housing and medical care assistance and more.
Adult peer support
Adult peer support is primarily provided by those who have experienced mental illness. Positive support is extended to help individuals in their recovery processes. Adult peer support is for those 18 years old and older. A certified peer support specialist (CPSS) is in place to help direct this service.
Education
PVFC is positioned to help supply individuals with information about mental health resources. We provide education that ranges from tips from reliable sources to information on mental health concerns, coping skills, diagnosis, and more. Crisis response services
PVHC provides crisis response services. Available 24/7, these telephonic services are designed to support individuals experiencing behavioral health crises. Crisis response services include assessment, stabilization, counseling, and referrals to community resources, as circumstances apply.
