Portneuf Valley Family Center (PVFC) has offered counseling and mental health services in Soda Springs since 2010. Our team is focused on providing professional and customized services. Counseling and other mental health services are available for children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families.
Personalized Approach
PVFC takes a personalized approach, providing patients with customized treatment plans and specific attention. We value taking time to understand the circumstances of our clients and formatting personalized treatment plans geared toward effective support and solutions. In order to provide quality care, we will collaborate as appropriate with healthcare providers whose expertise can benefit patients.
Professional Staff
Our staff members have a combination of compassion, training, and experience. The team includes the following members, each committed to supporting Soda Springs and the surrounding area with mental health services:
Misty Davis: Misty is the office manager for both the Soda Springs and Pocatello PVFC locations. She has a degree in health information technology from Idaho State University.
Dr. Kathleen Erwin: With experience that includes in- and out-patient psychiatry, women’s mental health, and veterans affairs hospital consultation, Dr. Erwin has a solid background in mental health services. She specializes in diagnosing and treating mood, thought, and anxiety disorders.
Sheron Berg: A community-based rehabilitation specialist (CBRS) and case manager, Sheron has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with a human services emphasis.
Ronda Schaeffer: Ronda is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) with a master’s degree in mental health counseling.

Counseling/Psychotherapy
Counseling and psychotherapy focus on fostering a connection between a patient and a mental health care professional.
Counseling addresses immediate issues, offering clients guidance to discover their own solutions. Counseling sessions typically last from several weeks to months. Psychotherapy, on the other hand, encompasses various treatment methods and targets deeper, long-term challenges. Psychotherapy treatments may be scheduled consistently or intermittently over the course of several years.
At PVFC, we provide both counseling and psychotherapy services, tailored to each client's needs.
Community-based rehabilitation services
Community-based rehabilitation services (CBRS) emphasize collaboration. At PVFC, we utilize a home- and community-centered therapy approach, where the patient and mental health professional work together to achieve personalized treatment goals. CBRS can be highly effective for individuals facing severe mental health challenges, helping to enhance their quality of life and address behavioral and mental health concerns.
Medication management
Medication management provides patients with thorough, outpatient care.
Our services include an initial evaluation and ongoing follow-up appointments as necessary. Medication management can play a vital role in the treatment of conditions such as depression, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADD/ADHD), bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. At PVFC, medications can be prescribed for individuals aged six and older.
Behavioral health case management
Behavioral health case management is designed to assist individuals living with mental illness access community resources. Services are available to individuals who qualify, with qualification determined by a clinician. The case management program takes a comprehensive and collaborative approach, focusing on assessment and individualized planning. This service is available to children, adolescents, and adults.
Adult peer support
Adult peer support is mental health care provided by individuals with lived experience of mental illness. Certified peer support specialists are in place to help individuals set goals, connect with resources, and develop personalized plans. The adult peer support program focuses on empowering individuals aged 18 and older to foster growth, resilience, and self-direction.
Education
PVFC is dedicated to providing education to individuals, making available valuable information about mental health resources. We offer educational content that includes practical tips from trusted sources and information for gaining insights on mental health challenges, coping strategies, diagnoses, and more. Crisis response services
PVFC crisis response services operate 24/7, providing telephonic support for individuals experiencing behavioral health crises. The services include assessment, stabilization, counseling, and referrals to community resources. If telephonic intervention is insufficient, individuals may be directed to crisis intervention services or crisis centers. Emergency services are engaged in cases of immediate danger.
